Bartlett, Helen Marie (Choate, Prevett)
Flint, Michigan
Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Helen Marie (Choate, Prevett) Bartlett, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Charter Senior Living of Stepping Stone Falls in Flint Township, Michigan. Age 97 years. Helen was born on October 14, 1927 in Alicia, Arkansas to the late Walter and Della (McCullough) Choate. On December 2 in Arkansas, Helen married her first husband and father of her children, James Prevett, and he preceded her in death on December 15, 1990. They moved to Flint, Michigan in the late 1940's. She and James later divorced. Helen married Curtis Bartlett on September 23, 1989 in Flint, Michigan. They moved to Missouri and spent three years together until Curt's passing in June of 1993. Helen worked as a Nursing Assistant at McLaren for over 30 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Baring Cross Church in Flint.
Helen had many hobbies including cooking, gardening, quilting, spending time with her family, attending her grandchildren's events and spoiling them rotten. Helen had a kind and loving heart. Not a mean word was spoken or a voice raised. All who entered her door were greeted with a smile, warm hello, and "did you eat yet?" One of the things that brought Helen joy was cooking for others and making sure they left her house full. She loved playing cards after dinner, especially Skip Bo. It was a rare occasion for anyone to beat her as she always seemed to have the winning card.
Helen enjoyed life to the fullest. At Halloween she could be found oohing and ahhing over all the costumes while handing out candy in her own witch's hat. She took many bus adventures with her lady friends. Sporting events, dance recitals, concerts, if she was able, she was there. Helen knew this life on Earth was short and she was determined to make the best of every day.
Remaining to cherish Helen's memory are her son, Terry (Barb) Prevett of Flushing; daughter-in-law, Joyce Prevett of Flushing; grandchildren, Kevin (Lisa) Prevett of West Virginia, Kim (Pat) Hodge of Burton, Sheryl (Scott) Brandow of Flushing, Dena Prevett of Flushing; 16 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren; former son-in-law, Bob Black; and several nieces and nephews; Special friends, Hazel, Stephanie, and Vivian. Preceding Helen in death are her first husband, James Prevett; her second husband, Curtis Bartlett; children, Jimmie Prevett, Mary Black, and Burnie Prevett; grandchildren, Michael Black, Teresa Gower, Mary Kay Reid; great-grandchild, Amy Lagalo-Montijo; parents, Walter and Della Choate; and brother, James "Commie" Choate.
The Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 p.m., noon, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at the Rossell Funeral Home, 307 E. Main St., Flushing, Michigan 48433. Officiating will be Pastor John Carter. My deepest sympathies to Helen´s family and friends. Helen was one of kindest and most loving and supportive persons I have ever known. My childhood memories of our times together with her and her children are so very special to me. Sincerely, Pat Walt Matteson

I´m so sorry for your loss. I worked with Helen right after I graduated nursing school. She was a lovely person, generous with her time and her wealth of knowledge. She helped me gain skills and confidence. Know that she made many, many people´s lives better for having her in their lives. God bless.
