Helen Tracey Obituary

Guntersville, Ala. - Helen Mary Shaver Tracey Day, 91, of Guntersville, Ala., went to be with our Lord July 1, 2025, dying peacefully in her sleep. She was surrounded by loving family. She was born Oct. 17, 1933, in West Fulton, N.Y., in the Shaver Homestead. Helen was the daughter of Jay Rickard Shaver and Helen Lena Way Shaver.

She married Peter Francis Tracey, Jr. in Norwich, Feb. 18, 1950. He predeceased Helen April 5, 1971. She then married Robert "Pops" Arthur Day in New London, at the Coast Guard Academy Chapel Jan. 12, 1973. He predeceased Helen Oct. 18, 2015.

Helen's survivors include two sons with her first husband, Peter F. Tracey Jr. They are Peter F. Tracey III (Rebecca) and Jay R. Tracey (Jennifer); and a daughter, Mellony P. Tracey. After marrying Robert A. Day, they proceeded to have twin sons, Robert Eric Day and William Arthur Day. Helen also has two stepdaughters, Gail L. Butler (Willard) and Robin A. Day Hamilton; five grandsons; four granddaughters; five great-grandsons; nine great-granddaughters; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Helen's remains will then be flown to Connecticut where visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 14, at the Cummings-Gagne Funeral Home 82 Cliff St. Norwich. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. July 15, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich. The family asks that no flowers be sent.
