Helen Irene Leiting was born on October 2nd, 1934, at Lake City Hospital to Clarence & Mathilda (Schuette) Obman. Helen was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. Helen was baptized November 11, 1934. She was confirmed March 21, 1948, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City.

Helen graduated from Arcadia High School in 1953, carrying with her the foundation of a life marked by quiet strength and enduring kindness. On September 1, 1957, she was united in marriage with Floyd Leiting at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, IA. Together, they welcomed three children: David, Deborah, and Steve. After Floyd's passing in 1973, Helen embraced the immense responsibility of raising her children as a single mother, pouring her heart into nurturing her family and creating a home filled with warmth and affection.

Helen lived her life with a radiant smile, an infectious happiness, and a remarkably giving and gracious heart. She cherished the simple pleasures, particularly outings to try new foods and laughter shared with her beloved sisters, neighbors and family. Her favorite moments were those spent with family, celebrating birthdays, holidays, and special occasions that wove the rich tapestry of their shared lives.

A meticulous baker, Helen’s kitchen was a place of delicious creations. Even in her later years, her passion for baking endured, as she joyfully directed others to be her hands in the kitchen, ensuring her beloved recipes continued to bring delight. To unwind, Helen found solace in reading her Bible, engaging in spirited card games, and solving challenging word puzzles. These quiet moments reflected her peaceful and contemplative spirit.

Those who knew Helen will fondly remember her boundless generosity. Her refrigerator and freezer were always brimming with sweet treats, a testament to her thoughtful nature and her desire to always have something special for any visitor who might stop by. We will forever cherish the countless hours spent in her company, engaging in casual everyday conversations that were always filled with her gentle wisdom and genuine interest.

Helen’s life was a testament to quiet grace, profound humility, and unwavering generosity. She navigated her share of heartache and struggles with remarkable resilience, celebrating triumphs with equal grace. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, a gentle spirit, and countless cherished memories.

Helen passed away on July 12, 2025, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, IA surrounded by her family at the age of 90. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Leiting; siblings, Betty (Arlo) Dammann and Ruth (Mac) Liechti; half-brother-in-law, Melvin (Marilyn) Leiting; parents-in-law, William and Helen Leiting; and sisters-in-law, Connie Nieland and Helen (Tom) Higgins.

Helen is survived by her children: David (Lou) Leiting, Deborah (Daniel) Wittrock, and Steve (Tammy) Leiting all of Arcadia; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Paul Nieland of Lake View; extended family members and friends.
