St. George, Utah - Heloise Martin, 86, passed peacefully away on Friday, June 20, 2025, after suffering for the last several years with Alzheimer's disease. Mimi (as she was lovingly known by most of her friends and family) was born in Oakley, Utah on March 15, 1939, to Theon L. Hansen and Wilma Woolstenhulme. She grew up in the Salt Lake valley and raised her family there. Later, she and her husband, Ray F. Martin, moved to Hurricane, Utah where they lived for over 20 years.
Mimi loved her family and would do anything for them – she always put others before herself. She was a hard worker and taught us children that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right and that we should always give our best efforts and take pride in our work.
Food was Mimi's love language, and she loved to cook for people. She spent much of her adult life catering weddings and dinner parties, and she used the talent and knowledge she gained from that to serve her family, friends, and neighbors. If you were to visit her home, you could always expect a meal, and if you left hungry, it was your own fault! If a neighbor had a birthday, they would get their favorite cake or pie. Often, she would bake pies or other treats for neighbors for no real occasion – only because she loved to do it, and she loved to serve.
Mimi served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including a full-time mission to Wellington New Zealand with her husband from 1994-96. They also served often in the temples of the church.
Mimi was fiercely independent, which was difficult for her as she declined mentally – still insisting on doing things herself but not being capable of doing everything. This was the hardest to watch. We are so sad at her passing but are grateful that she is free from the limitations of a mortal body and once again able to be with her beloved partner.
Mimi is survived by her three sisters: Judy Smith (Kent), Jackie Bjornn (Richard), Miriam Morrell (Dean); stepdaughter, Mitzi Richardson (Archie); sons: James T. Martin and John Sullivan (Debbie); daughter, Jacqueline Jackson; daughter-in-law, Raico Martin; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Farrington Martin; son, David Lawrence Martin; son-in-law, Daniel Max Jackson; sister, Arda Naylor; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary Chapel, 140 North Main Street, Hurricane, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday, prior to services, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Mortuary. Interment will follow in the Hurricane City Cemetery located at 255 East 600 North.
