Herbert “Herbie” Dittmer Jr, 56, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.
A visitation for Herbie will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden, Iowa. A celebration of life will be hosted by the Dittmer family at a later date.
Herbert Stephen Dittmer Jr, son of Herbert Sr. and Carole (Pritchard) Dittmer was born on January 30, 1969, in Boone, Iowa. He graduated from Boone High School with the class of 1988. Following high school, Herbie attended Iowa Lakes Community College where he earned his Associates Degree in carpentry.
On April 13, 1996, Herbie was united in marriage to Lori Phipps in which he lovingly called Blossom, and later called “A Dandy” at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boone, Iowa. To this union a daughter Hailey Zoe was born in 2001. The couple made their home in Ogden. In 2018, he welcomed Jonathan Kraus into his family, trusting he would protect and love his “Baby Girl”.
After he completed college, Herbie worked at Quinns Foundry. He then began a Mason Apprenticeship for FMC Masonry Company where he worked for the past 29 years. He was an honest and hardworking man. Jean shorts and work boots were his office attire.
Herbie was a simple man who loved his family and friends. A summer day and a pickup truck was incentive enough for a country drive. He enjoyed camping, cooking, and barbecuing. He also enjoyed the Boone Racetrack, and was always willing to be part of the pit crew. He was the best Santa ever to family and friends where children always brought out his soft side. He was a playful wisecracker to his nieces and nephews. The party always started when Herbie arrived.
In addition to his parents, Herbie was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Dick and Bea Phipps; brothers-in-law, Mike “SH” Scheuermann and Tim Phipps.
Herbie is survived by his loving wife, Lori Dittmer of Ogden; his daughter, Hailey (Jonathan Kraus) Dittmer of Boone; seven sisters, Regina (David) Wellendorf, Rebecca (Jeff) Kinning, Rhonda (Jim) Guldenpfennig, Renee Scheuermann, Dr. Roxann Dittmer (Stan Severson), Rachelle (Dave) Flory, and Rheann (Ryan) Uetz; brother-in-law, Mike (Linda) Phipps; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
