Hershel Thomas Obituary

Hershel "Jr." Thomas, age 87, of LaFayette, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025. He was of the Christian faith. Jr.'s early working career began with the family sawmill until he became of age to work for Barwick Mills where he became a truck driver. He later worked for Rossville Mills until his retirement with 40 years of service. Jr. had a passion for playing cards and pool and had his own billiard room. He was a man with a great sense of humor where he loved telling and hearing good jokes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Sue Moore Thomas; parents, Hershel Leonard Thomas Sr., and Seattle Martin Thomas; brother, Otis Thomas; and sisters, Louise Chambers, Betty Jean Asher, Grace Chapman, Reba Thomas, and Nellie Smith.
Survivors include his daughters, Tammy (Mike) Gamble, Denise (Tim) Smith, and Vickie (Gary) Ramey; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Randy Avans officiating.
Interment will take place at LaFayette City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 7, at the funeral home.
