Hi n Ng c Nguy n passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025 at his home surrounded by family at the age of 82 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, son, uncle, and friend.
Growing up in a small village outside Nha Trang along the Pacific Ocean in Vietnam, he was the middle child of nine, the eldest son and the last surviving sibling. A gifted student, he was top of his class and graduated from the National College of Agriculture and Forestry in B o L c, Vietnam. Upon graduation, he was appointed as Head of the Agricultural Development Office in Long Xuyên, where he married and had two children. Not long after, he was promoted to Chief of the Department of Linguistics and Rural Development, where he made positive changes for the people of Vietnam.
His life, like many of his generation, was dramatically altered by the war in Vietnam. After completing military service, he continued to serve, reaching the rank of Lieutenant and held the position of Fuel and Petroleum Inspector. Following the fall of Saigon in 1975, he was imprisoned in a re-education camp and eventually released. Tragically, his wife and daughter died during an attempt to escape the war's devastating aftermath. He and his son survived and stayed at a refugee camp in Thailand before resettling in Stevens Point, WI, through a sponsorship by St. Paul Lutheran Church. In Wisconsin, he remarried and had two daughters. He spent 30 years at Qualex photo finishing plant, eventually rising to the position of supervisor until he retired.
Hi n found joy in deer hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family. During his retirement, he made several trips back to Vietnam to see family and to enjoy the beauty of his first home. He lived in central Wisconsin until his death. Although he is gone, the memory of his extraordinary resilience, integrity, and unwavering love for his family will not be forgotten.
Hi n is survived by his wife, TúCâm, his son Phúc, his daughters, Ann (Jeremy), Wendy (Douglas), and his grandchildren Kieran and Luca.
Private family gatherings will be held in Wisconsin and in Vietnam at a later date. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Compassus as well as to friends, family, and the community for their support. In memory of Hi n, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
