Hilja, who resided in Lake Worth, loved sewing and baking Finnish foods such as Karelian pies and fresh birthday cakes. Hilja loved to be involved with St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Suomi Talo (Finland House) and the Finnish-American Rest Home.
She is survived by her son Juha, daughter-in-law Sheila; grandchildren: Tarmo Juha (Maddie Kjosa), Johnathan, Katie, Satu VanderWoude (Scott VanderWoude) and Siru Foulon (Mark Foulon); and great-granddaughters: Katelyn, Nicole VanderWoude, Cora and Ava Foulon. Hilja is preceded in death by her loving husband Arvo and son Kari. Immediate family members who preceded her in death include parents Otto and Beda, brothers Toivo and Erkki, and sister Aino.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, July 13th, 2025 from 12-3 pm at Suomi Talo (Finland House) in Lantana, Florida.
