Horacio J. Chavez, age 85 of Clovis, NM, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Muffley Funeral Home, 1430 Thornton Street. Rosary will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 12:30 pm with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:00 pm with Father Franklin Iwuagua at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 921 N Merriwether Street. James Chavez, Mateo Chavez, Chris Chavez, David Chavez, Don Gonzalez, and Bennie Gonzalez will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Crystal Chavez, Desiree Chavez, and Esperanza Chavez.
Horacio was born on January 23, 1940, to Sotero Chavez and Luisa Valencia in Santa Rosa, NM. He enjoyed woodworking, yard work, landscaping and traveling. He married Socorro Alvarez on September 13, 2007, in Clovis, NM.
Survivors include his two sons; Mario Chavez (April) of Clovis, NM, Mark Chavez of Clovis, NM, one sister; Priscilla Baldonado of Grand Prairie, TX, two brothers; Sotero (Junior) Chavez of Clovis, NM and Mike Chavez of Clovis, NM, six grandchildren; Jordan Dickenson (Stephen), James Chavez, Crystal Chavez, Desiree Chavez, Esperanza Chavez, Mateo Chavez, and two great-grandchildren; Vicente Chavez, and Moni Salisbury.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Sotero Chavez and Luisa Valencia, son Matthew Chavez, six sisters; Christina Baca, Carmen Cassidy, Rosa Chavez, Elena Zamora, Gloria Chavez, and Dora Baca, and two brothers; Tony Chavez, and Richard Chavez.
