Hyde Park, Eleanor Nursing Center

Howard John Robinson with his daughters by his side, made his peaceful departure from this physical world to the spiritual world on Friday July 11, 2025. He was 83 years old.

The only son of Frank John Robinson and Bertha Mae Soules and only brother to Frances J. Dupilka, was born on February 10, 1942, in Poughkeepsie. Both parents and his sister pre-deceased him.

The family moved to Hyde Park from Poughkeepsie when Howard was a young boy, to the home his father built and where Howard settled and raised a family.

Howard graduated from Staatsburg Union Free school in 1960. From there he enlisted with the United States Air Force and served honorably until August of 1968.

Howard married the love of his life Ruth Swartz on July 16, 1961, in the Pleasant Plains Presbyterian Church in Staatsburg. They went on to have and raise five children. They celebrated 62 years of marriage until Ruth's passing in 2023.

Howard was a worker! He even tried his hand at sales before deciding to further his education at the Culinary Institute & Bard College. He worked for Pacio's bakery in Hyde Park waking in the early morning for "time to make the donuts." As a side business, Howard produced and sold gingerbread houses for Christmas time. He worked for Cardinal Hayes Home for Children from 8/2/1987 where he worked as a cook and then eventually a direct support professional. During this time Howard also maintained his own housekeeping business. He retired from CHHC in 2006.

After retirement, he went to work for New Horizons Briggs Farm, Greystone Programs and Adams Fair Acre Farms.

Howard had a passion for being outdoors, every spare moment he would work his land from sun- up until sundown, gardening and landscaping, enjoying the clouds in the sky and colorful sunrise and sunsets, listening to the crickets and peep frogs.

He had many interests throughout his life including music, singing & dancing. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Howard enjoyed talking to people and sharing the gospel. Howard taught himself how to speak Spanish so he could read and share The Book of Mormon with those who only spoke Spanish. He took formal classes at BOCES to learn American Sign Language so he could interpret and communicate with those in the deaf community within his church. He loved to memorize and recite scripture and poetry.

Howard is survived by his son Dane Robinson and wife Christine, Mark Robinson and wife Susan, daughter Jennifer Feimer and husband John daughter Sarah Maeder, son Aaron Robinson.

It was a true pleasure working with Mr. Howard at the Fallkill Ira operated by Greystone Programs Inc. He was a personable, compassionate man with a wealth of knowledge. He added to the team and made a difference in the lives of the men he provided support to. My condolences to the family at this difficult time. We shall see him again, Shalom.
