With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Hunter Maguire Saunders. Affectionately known by many as "Hunt". Born on May 12, 1961, in Monticello, Georgia, Hunter was the son of MarthaAnn Saunders and the late Cecil "Vann" Saunders, Jr. In addition to his father, Hunter was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessi Wren Saunders, and his brother, Cecil Vann "Trey" Saunders III.
Hunter is survived by his mother; his sister, Pam Tolbert; and the love of his life, Anita, with whom he shared 34 devoted years of marriage. Together, they created a joyful and fulfilling life, raising two children: their late daughter, Jessi Wren, their son Hunter Jacob "Jake" Saunders, and their daughter-in-law, Haleigh. Hunter's pride and joy continued with his grandson, Hunter "McCoy" Saunders, who brought light to his later years and will carry forward his enduring spirit.
A man of deep faith, unwavering principles, and a generous heart, Hunter touched countless lives through his authenticity, humor, and warmth. His brilliant smile and contagious enthusiasm lifted everyone around him. Known for his intelligence and resourcefulness, he navigated life with compassion, integrity, and common sense. Hunter was a member of Old Camp Methodist Church and the Friends and Family Sunday School Class.
Hunter built a successful and respected career in the building industry, where he was known for his precision, craftsmanship, and pursuit of excellence.
His love for the outdoors was a lifelong passion. Whether hunting, fishing, or simply soaking in the beauty of nature, Hunter found peace and joy outside. Many treasured memories were made on hunting trips with his son, where they sought turkey, quail, pheasant, duck, grouse, elk, deer, and more across the country. Their time spent casting lines in southern waters was marked by laughter, quiet reflection, and deep connection.
Hunter delighted in life's simple pleasures, and the companionship of loved ones. Though he was a skilled outdoorsman, it was his kind soul, boundless love, and uplifting presence that will be most remembered.
Hunter also gave back by mentoring youth through the 4-H shooting team, teaching not only skills but also instilling a respect for wildlife, nature, and ethical sportsmanship. His impact on young lives and love for the land will continue to echo for generations.
A man of conviction, Hunter stood firmly in his beliefs and lived generously. He welcomed others with open arms and an open heart-always ready to help, offer wise counsel, or simply share a meaningful conversation. He gave without hesitation, often and selflessly.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Central School Class of '79 for their continued friendship, the compassionate team at City of Hope Cancer Center in Newnan-especially Chip, Elaine, and Jennifer-and the dedicated caregivers who supported Hunter at home with unwavering devotion.
Hunter lived life with passion and without regret. In his own words, he planned to "live life to his fullest ability and slide wide open to the end right as death arrives." He left this world peacefully, confident in his eternal place in Heaven.
His legacy of love, strength, and sincerity will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
Following his wishes, Hunter's body was cremated. The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A Celebration of his Life will be held in the days that follow.
