Imogene Godfrey Obituary

Imogene S. Godfrey,84, of Rockingham passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025 at Richmond Co. Hospice Haven. She was born October 30, 1940 in Nashville, TN, a daughter of the late Louis Franklin and Rhoda Marshall Shipman.

Before retiring from Hood Packaging Corporation as a Payroll Clerk, Mrs. Godfrey spent a number of years working at the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce. She loved visiting her friends at #1 Diner and spending time with her church family. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. Her greatest passion, though, was for her family, whom she loved and cooked the best meals for. Seeing everyone together made her the happiest. Christmas was her favorite holiday, followed closely by Thanksgiving. She was a classy lady who loved everyone and had genuine southern charm. She enjoyed many special trips and shared her love and compassion with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She embraced the roles of wife, mom, Mema, and Gigi, cherishing the unbreakable bonds and countless precious moments that made her life truly meaningful. She leaves behind a tight-knit family, the most precious gift she ever gave - a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering bond that will be cherished for generations to come. Their hearts are her enduring testament; a vivid reminder of the beautiful way she chose to live her life with boundless kindness and devotion towards her family and everyone else that she came in contact with.

She was preceded in death by her husband James David Godfrey, a grandson Matthew Chason "Chase" Brown, and sisters Katie Grulich, and Cheryl Livingston.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 11 :00 a.m. at Freedom Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie McLean officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park.

Surviving are her children, Shari Brown (Greg), David Godfrey (Birgit), and Mark Godfrey (Emily); grandchildren, Adam Godfrey (Monique), Megan Keller (Joe), Chris Brown (Katie), Cooper Godfrey, Danny Sargent, Alex Brand, Andreas Brand, Payton English; great-grandchildren, Ava Brown and Colton Brown, Lilly Keller, Zoey Keller, and Emiley Keller.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham and other times at the home of Greg and Shari Brown, 1302 Ann St. Rockingham, NC 28379.
