In Loving Memory of Isaiah Tavares Teixeira
February 12, 1994 – June 25, 2025
With profound sorrow and heartbreak, we announce the passing of Isaiah Tavares Teixeira, a remarkable young man whose presence brought light, love, and inspiration to all who knew him. Isaiah passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of brilliance, ambition, and compassion.
Born February 12, 1994, Isaiah was the beloved son of Maria Djafa Teixeira and Rezendo Martins Tavares of Boston, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his loving stepfather Benvindo Costa, whose guidance helped shape the man Isaiah became. He is survived by his brothers Eli Costa and Nathaniel Martins, his sisters Alina Tavares and Juliett Martins, and the love of his life, Vivian Paez, with whom he shared a deep, unshakable bond.
From an early age, Isaiah showed extraordinary drive and determination. A gifted athlete, he played Pop Warner football with the Boston Bangals and rose to prominence as a standout running back. At Blue Hills Regional Technical School, Isaiah led the Warriors to the Eastern Massachusetts Division Super Bowl Championship in 2011. That year, he rushed for over 1,000 yards and helped propel his team to the state championship. He graduated in June 2012 with the admiration of his peers and coaches, who described him as "the smartest, most self-motivated kid I've ever coached-always ready for a challenge and unwilling to give up."
Isaiah's dreams stretched far beyond the football field. He aspired to become a doctor and never lost sight of that goal. He began his academic journey at Morgan State University on an athletic scholarship before transferring to the University of Massachusetts, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 2016. Passionate about healthcare and justice, Isaiah pursued a career in medicine, working at both Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Massachusetts General Hospital in clinical research.
He was selected for the prestigious Johns Hopkins Research Program, a pivotal step toward medical school, and later earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Rush University in Chicago in August 2022. A proud member of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, Isaiah was deeply committed to serving underserved communities and making healthcare more humane, equitable, and accessible.
In December 2024, Isaiah was accepted to the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing, where he was set to begin his training for his doctorate in the fall-a long-awaited dream finally within reach.
Isaiah was not only a scholar and healer in the making but a fearless adventurer. He completed the Chicago Marathon in 2023, went skydiving, and traveled the world, always pushing boundaries and embracing life with a fierce and joyful spirit.
To his more than 20 cousins, he was a hero and role model, someone they admired deeply and loved wholeheartedly. To all who knew him, Isaiah was a beacon of hope, brilliance, and quiet strength.
Isaiah's life, though far too short, was rich with purpose, passion, and promise. He supported his mother and young brother Eli in every way imaginable. Life without him feels impossible but we will make sure we try our best to keep making the world a better place like he always tried to do. Isaiah will be remembered forever for his integrity, positive outlook on life, contagious smile, and desire to leave the world a better place.
His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, teammates, colleagues, and the countless lives he touched with his warmth, intellect, and selfless heart.

My condolences to Isaiah's family during this time of loss. Praying that GOD draw even closer to you during this time and that the memories you shared will comfort your hearts. My heart aches after hearing this news, but nothing compares to what I can only imagine his mom and family is going through. Please know that someone in Maryland that you do not know but knew your son when he was friends with my loved one is praying for you during this time.
