On July 13, 2025, Jack Robinson Huyett passed away. He is survived by his children with his first wife, Beverly Hofer Huyett: son, Jack Robinson Huyett, Jr. (Rob) and his wife, Diane; daughter, Elizabeth Huyett Spencer (Liz) and her husband, Larry; and beloved granddaughter, Catherine Elizabeth Spencer (Cat). He was predeceased by his parents, John Burns and Georgia Robinson Huyett; his sisters, Elizabeth Ann Huyett and Lelia Huyett White; his brothers, John Burns Huyett, Jr. (JB) and Luther Randolph Huyett; former wife, Beverly Hofer Huyett; and subsequent wives, Hannah Jane Huyett and Mary Elinor Huyett.
We thank Carole Griffith for her companionship to Dad.
Jack, the youngest of five children, was born May 24, 1932. A native of Charles Town, WV, there was no one prouder to call Jefferson County and West Virginia home. Following his 1950 graduation from Charles Town High School, he entered the Virginia Military Institute and graduated with a B.A. History in 1954. At Jack's graduation from VMI, he commissioned into the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, Infantry, and was stationed at Fort Benning.
Jack and Bev married December 1954 and planned to make the Army their life. However, instead of receiving orders to Germany as they had hoped, Jack was sent to Dothan, Alabama as part of the team to re-open the former Camp Rucker when the Army Aviation School moved to Rucker from Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Thus ended the idea of a military career! With newborn, Rob, in tow, Jack and Bev moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1956 where Jack started work with Chemstrand Corporation, at one time the largest manufacturer of synthetic fiber. While Jack liked his time with Chemstrand, he wasn't fond of the hours of his job as a shift manager and loved to say, "I worked while everybody played and played while everybody worked." Feeling like they were missing out on life, he and Bev decided they also missed the change of seasons they were used to in Virginia and West Virginia, and decided to return to Charles Town in 1959, with new baby, Liz, now part of their family.
Jack found his career when he entered the world of banking. He accepted a position of note teller with Blakeley Bank and Trust in 1959, was promoted to Executive Vice-President and Cashier in 1963, and was named President in 1969. Jack remained in that position when Blakeley Bank merged with F & M National Corporation of Winchester, Virginia, in 1988, becoming F & M Bank-Blakeley. In 1992, Jack was named President and Chief Administrative Officer of F & M National Corporation and was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board in 1996. He retained those positions until his retirement in 1997.
Active in community affairs, Jack was a member of the board of the Jefferson County Development Authority, a member of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the Charles Town Kiwanis Club, and served on community boards including Jefferson Memorial Park, Edge Hill Cemetery, and Charles Town Memorial Library. He was a member of 40 & 8, Men's Cooking Club, Charles Town Cotillion, Henry Kyd Douglas Sons of the Confederates, the American Legion, and VFW. He was a lifetime member of the Charles Town Presbyterian Church, having served as Deacon, Elder, Treasurer, and President of the Board of Trustees.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025 at the Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town, WV with Reverend John Bethard officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to The VMI Foundation (P.O. Box 932, Lexington, VA 24450), Charles Town Library, 200 E. Washington Street, Charles Town, WV 25414, Charles Town Presbyterian Church, PO Box 89, Charles Town, WV 25414 or Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.

So sorry to hear of Jacks passing. He was a good mam and a good friend. Seems like I've known him all my life. My father and him were schoolmates. As the bank president he knew his community and his customers and treated everyone with respect. A handshake oftentimes was as good as a contract. He will be missed.

Jack was a wonderful neighbor and friend. My husband and I will always cherish our memories of sitting with Jack on his shady front porch and chatting about anything and everything. He always had a smile and a cheerful wave for anyone who happened to walk past (and a conversation if you had time to stop and chat!). We will miss you Jack. You were one of a kind in the best possible way!
