Jack Edward Pendleton, Jr. passed away at home on Friday, February 24th, 2023 in South Jordan, Utah.
He was born November 10th, 1941 to Jack Edward Pendleton, Sr. and Marjorie Louise Kirkpatrick in Hutchinson, Kansas. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1960, attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and then East Central University in Ada, where he met Darla Sue McKinney. Eddie and Darla were married in Stillwater on November 21st, 1962.
First, last, and always, Eddie was a cattleman and a hard worker. As a young boy, he woke before dawn to help in the barn at the Woodward Dairy Experiment Station where his father worked for the Extension Service. As a pre-teen, he planned a family dairy operation while he and his brother Jerry were recuperating from polio. As a teenager and young adult, he and his brothers ran PenBros, a family dairy, with their Ayrshire herd claiming top prizes in state fairs across the country.
As the dairy regulatory landscape changed, he transitioned to a beef herd that he operated while also working full-time elsewhere. Eddie kept meticulous cattle records, and enjoyed improving his beef herd through hybrid breeding, buying high quality bulls and introducing new traits through a variety of breeds including Angus, Hereford, Charolais, Texas Longhorn and even Beefalo ("Beefalo Bill").
Over the years, Eddie prepared taxes at H&R Block, did scheduling at Swan Hose, and was a package car driver for United Parcel Service, retiring from UPS in 2006.
Eddie suffered a stroke in 2008, and worked valiantly to regain his speech and to maximize the strength of his left arm and leg. Darla cared for him at home until she became ill in 2018, when they both moved to South Jordan, Utah to live with their daughter Valerie and her family.
In the years before moving to Utah, Eddie received much love and support from local family, including brother Mike and sister-in-law JoAnn, sister-in-law Darlene, grandsons Chad and Alec, and daughter-in-law Shauna.
In Utah, Eddie was unfailingly kind and appreciative, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Many of his aides said these qualities made him their favorite client. Eddie received wonderful care from Home Instead Senior Care, Summit Home Health & Hospice, HomeSpire Senior Care, and Valeo Hospice. Special thanks to all of Eddie's caregivers, for truly treating him like family.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Darla, son Kevin Pendleton (Shauna), brother Jerry Pendleton (Darlene), brother David Pendleton, and David's widow Linda.
He is survived by his brothers Mike Pendleton (JoAnn) of Stillwater and Gene Pendleton (Mechelle) of Claremore; sister-in-law Darlene Pendleton; daughter-in-law Shauna Pendleton of Ripley and grandchildren and step-grandchildren Alec Pendleton, Levi Shrader (Ashlie), Ahstyn Smith (Emily), Brittany Smith and Brandalyn Smith, all of Ripley; daughter Valerie Park (David) of South Jordan, Utah and grandchildren Chad Buchanan (Crystal) of South Jordan, Jordan Singleton (Nate) of Lehi, Utah, Taylor Park (Tabitha) of Kelso, Washington, Spencer Park of Sandy, Utah, and Alexander "Xander" Park of South Jordan, and great-grandchildren Laura Buchanan, Dakota, Sawyer and Luna Singleton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Eddie's life will be held at 1:00 pm on March 25th, 2023, at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, 5106 N Washington St., Stillwater, Oklahoma, followed by a brief ceremony at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 6500 S Perkins Rd, Stillwater, Oklahoma.
