Jack Alvin Taylor, 70, lifelong resident of Monrovia, passed peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025, at home. Born on December 24, 1954, to Joseph Taylor and Naomi (Chadd) Miller, Jack was raised in the heart of Monrovia and graduated from Monrovia High School in the Class of 1973.
Jack, together with his brother, began his career at the age of 15 by operating Taylor Auto Repair and Wrecker Services. He later pursued a long and dedicated career in the transportation industry, beginning as a long-haul truck driver and later managing operations. He concluded a fulfilling professional journey at Earle M. Jorgensen Company (EMJ).
Jack's life was defined by his love of auto racing, where he made a name for himself behind the wheel of his JTR #30. Whether competing on the dirt tracks or lending support in the pits, Jack's passion for the sport never waned. After his racing days, he became a mentor for young drivers, served as a mechanic for many, and remained a familiar face at raceways across the state. Friends and family often turned to him for his rare talent in repairing vehicles and solving problems that others couldn't handle. When not around cars or in the garage, Jack found joy in the outdoors-often golfing, fishing or taking off-road adventures with friends in his SxS or Jeep. Jack's legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the races he ran, and the stories shared by those who loved him most.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Alvin Taylor; his twin brother, Joseph Allen Taylor; and his stepfather, Carlos Miller.
He is survived by his beloved 92 year old mother, Naomi Chadd Miller of Monrovia, Indiana; sisters, Barbara Taylor Huntrods (husband, Richard) of Camby, Indiana and Kathy Taylor Reed (husband, Charles) of Fort Pierce, Florida; brother, Rick Miller (wife, Tina) of Avon, Indiana; nieces and nephews, Suzanne Shields Edwards (husband, Chad) of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, Jim Shields (wife, Kami) of Monrovia, Indiana; Renea Marsh Johnson (husband, Ryan) of Avon, Indiana, Jo Ann Taylor of Mooresville, Indiana, Ryan Marsh (wife, Angie) of Monrovia, Indiana, Chadd Wallace of Fort Pierce, Florida; and several extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Friends and family are invited to visit from 4 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, Monrovia. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the service in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, in Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack's memory to the American Cancer Society. Jack was the type that if you needed to know something about a vehicle,
he was the one to go to. He will be greatly missed, and I have lost a great friend. Mike Marsh
