Obituary of Jacqueline A. Mahony
Greenwood Lake, NY - Formerly of Okeechobee, FL
Jacqueline A. Mahony, a resident of Greenwood Lake, passed peacefully away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at home- just where she wanted to be. She was 80 years old. Jacqueline fought a long battle with cancer, surviving for 30 years. The daughter of Johanna Mikulski and Jacob Schadt, Jacqueline was born on September 18, 1944, in Warwick, NY.
Jacqueline grew up in Warwick and worked as a waitress. After she met her husband Joseph, they owned and operated the Ball Shop. After the sale of the business, Jacqueline became an intake specialist for Troll Books. She retired to take care of her nephew, Michael and then her grandchildren and friend's son.
To most, when they first met Jacqueline, she was scary, but once they got to know her, they discovered that she was warm and caring. She may have been stubborn, but she loved to help others. Jacqueline surrounded herself with others, especially children, teaching them crafts such as baking and decorating cakes, sewing, knitting, painting and needle point. She loved playing bingo, mahjong, and cards.
Jacqueline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, sister-in law and friend. She will truly be missed by her daughter, Son in-law, grandchildren and their spouses as well as other family members and friends.
Survivors include her daughter; Dawn and Son in-law; Christopher Van Doran, grandson; Robert and his wife Veronica, Granddaughter; Kyle and her husband Dillon Taber, brothers; Philip Schadt and wife Brenda, Michael Schadt and wife Jeannie, Albert Schadt and sister Kathy and husband James Moore, Brother in-law; Robert Mahony and wife Ellen, Sister in-law; Theresa Mahony and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jacqueline is predeceased by her husband; Joseph Mahony, daughter; Robyn, son; John Jacob and granddaughter; Amanda. She is also predeceased by her parents, Johanna and her husband John, her father Jacob, her stepmother Dolores Taft, her sister Maryanne, in-laws; Jack and Audrey Mahony, brother-in-law; John Mahony.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Zygmunt-Murtie Funeral Home, 4 Oak Street, Greenwood Lake, NY 10925. A funeral service will take place at 4:30pm.
