Jacquiline Burleson, a cherished member and guiding light of her mountain community, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025. She was a woman of deep compassion, creative spirit, and unwavering strength, whose legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Jacquiline moved to the Bakersville community as an adult, but quickly became one of its most beloved pillars. Through her boundless kindness, quiet strength, and fierce dedication, she helped shape and support the lives of those around her for decades. A woman of many talents and endless generosity, she served her community as an EMT and as a trusted, long-time hairdresser. Whether responding to emergencies or offering a warm smile and open chair, she was always someone others turned to in both hardship and joy.
Her heart was also full of artistry and imagination. As an artist and antique collector, she found beauty in the old and the handmade, breathing life into everything she touched. At her beloved church, she poured that creative energy into designing beautiful, immersive sets for services and special events-especially for Vacation Bible School, where her work brought joy to generations of children. Her faith guided her daily, and she was deeply involved in church life, always willing to lend a hand, an idea, or a prayer.
More than anything, Jacquiline was a caregiver-in every sense of the word. She was a devoted wife to the late Randy Burleson, a loving mother to Denise Black (Christopher), Joseph Avery Sharp (Jill), and the late Travis Sharp, and a stepmother to Crystal Burleson. She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Aubrey Sharp, Brandon Almeida (Brittney), Kaileigh Ridgley (Kevin), Alexis Almeida (Skylar), Austen Almeida (Amber), Gabriella Black, and Christopher Black Jr. she was known as Murr. She was also a doting great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren: Chloe Ridgley, Kevin Ridgley, Nolan Ridgley, and Myles Almeida-Frazier. Jacquiline was the daughter of the late Mary-Elizabeth and Joseph Avery Fisher and was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Travis Sharp and brother, Larry Fisher (Ingrid).
Her home was always open, her advice always honest, and her love always unconditional. She was not just the heart of her family, but a role model to all who knew her. Her resilience, grace, and warmth will continue to inspire those who were lucky enough to be part of her life.
A celebration of her life will be held on July 11, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Fork Mountain Baptist Church. Jacquiline will be cremated in accordance with her wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Fork Mountain Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice in Jacquiline's name, honoring her enduring commitment to faith, community, and care.

July 16, 2025

I remember all the great times as a kid being around Mrs. Jackie! Myself, my brother Wayne, Denise, Joe, and Travis (Travie) as we called him back then, we would all play, build tents with our sheets and clothes pins our moms would let us have. While our moms with Mrs Ediewould sit on the porch talking and drinking coffee. They always got their coffee breaks in and my dad and Mr. Jr would sit in chairs and talk amongst themselves. Us kids would watch our parents, Jackie, my mom and dad Nancy & Burley, Randy, Sharon, Roger, Darlene, and many more would all play volleyball. Then go for picnics all together and tubing down the river. Mrs Jackie was a strong and amazing women to look up to. Seem like there was nothing she couldn“t do. I know she will live in my heart forever but you already are so greatly missed. Go Fly High Mrs. Jackie give Randy, Mrs Edie, and Mr. Jr a big hug for me!

Always,
