A memorial service celebrating the life of Terry Atwood will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Old Hebron Baptist Church with the Reverend Micah Rutland officiating. Mr. Atwood, age 71, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Jefferson Davis Extended Care Facility in Prentiss. Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
James Terry Atwood was born on October 8, 1953 in Jefferson Davis County to Hilry and Norma Nations Atwood.
Throughout his career, Terry served as an over-the-road truck driver for many years, notably with Orleans Furniture Company in Columbia, Mississippi. His commitment to hard work and service extended beyond his trucking career, as he later transitioned to become a fireman with the Prentiss Fire Department. Terry was proud to be part of the inaugural graduating class of the Mississippi Fire Academy, and he carried the values of teamwork and bravery into every aspect of his work.
An avid fisherman, Terry cherished the moments spent on the Mississippi River, creating lasting memories alongside his beloved wife, Glenda, and their dear friends, Howard Kelly and Rick Burrow. These days on the Mississippi were filled with laughter and camaraderie, casting lines and sharing stories, making memories that would last for years to come.
Mr. Atwood was of the Baptist faith.
Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Hilry and Norma Atwood and his brothers, Bobby, Carroll, Jack and Billy.
His memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Glenda McInnis Atwood of Silver Creek; daughters, Sandy Sykes (Tony) of Pinola, Carol Cliburn (Phillip Hedgepeth) of Monticello; sons, Kenny Cliburn (Tammy) of Royal, AR, Michael Atwood (Heather) of Monticello and his brother, Hilry Atwood of Jackson. The legacy of their Pawpaw will also live on through his 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
