James Branum Obituary

Rev. James Clifford Branum, age 91 of Knoxville, TN, was greeted by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in his heavenly home Saturday, March 8, 2025. Preacher Branum passed away peacefully; surrounded by his family and loved ones. Preacher Jim was born January 30, 1934, in Louisville, KY. Preacher Jim was a devout Baptist minister and pastor of Bearden Gospel Baptist Church for nearly 60 years. He met the love of his life, Margaret Lumpkin, in 1955, just recently celebrating 69 years of marriage. Preacher Jim had a servant's heart and loved his family, friends, and church family. During his ministry, Preacher Jim led many souls to Christ and always strived to live his life to glorify God. He always had a hug and a few words of encouragement for everyone he met. During this time of mourning, Preacher Jim would want us to draw comfort and peace from God's promise that we will see him again in Heaven.
Brother Jim is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth (Roby) Branum; daughter, Kelly Lewis (Branum); granddaughters, Mataia and Myranda Branum; sisters, Patsy Durbin and Jane Carol Branum.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Lumpkin) Branum; daughter, Robin Jones; son, James Randall Branum (Tonya); son-in-law, James Lewis; sister, Peggy Harris; grandchildren, Rhonda Jones, Danny Jones, Rebecca McDowell, Brandon Lewis, Kurtis Branum, Alexandria Branum, and Allyson Branum-Clemmer; 17 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
As Preacher Jim would say, "I have fought the good fight, I have won the battle, I have finished my race, don't weep for me, but rejoice that I am home safe in the arms of God, and (in his famous words) I'm fine."
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 11th from 5:00-7:00pm at Olivet Baptist Church with a funeral service to follow. Family and friends will gather at Rose Funeral & Cremation – Mann on Wednesday, March 12th at 12:00pm and leave in procession to Highland West for a 1:00pm graveside service.
