James E. Brooks

James E. Brooks, 83, of Falmouth, passed away on July 3, 2025, at Mary Washington Hospital.

A 1961 graduate of Stafford High School, James spent his career as a truck driver. He enjoyed the simple things in life like bass fishing, NASCAR, and cheering on the Washington football team. He was a proud supporter of his grandchildren, always in the stands for their county sports games.

James had a lifelong passion for drag racing, which began in the 1960s. For the past 30 years, he and his sons built and raced with JEB Four Racing, a nationally ranked NHRA drag racing team.

He will be remembered for his love of family, racing, and his steady, supportive presence.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Frances Boutchyard Brooks; three sons, Jamie (Melissa), Jeff (Sarah), and John (Samantha); four grandchildren, Jacob, Morgan (Kyle), J.B., and Aubrey; stepgrandson, Casey (Jenny); and two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Lincoln Nance. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ivan.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church, 1193 White Oak Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405, with a reception to follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
