Sutton resident James "Jim" Ralph Brown, Jr., 65, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025.
Memorial services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Stockham Community Church in Stockham, NE, with Pastor Rick Bartek officiating. The family will have a book signing and open house from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Stockham Community Church. In honoring his wish to be cremated, there will be no viewing.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.
Jim was born October 4, 1959, to James R. Brown and Patricia (Rickel) Brown in Youngstown, OH. He graduated from New Wilmington and Lawrence County Vo Tech. He was united in marriage to Joyce S. Nuss on October 18, 1980, in Aurora, NE. He was employed as an over-the-road truck driver in various capacities, hauling everything from produce to brand new trucks, driving over 5 million miles over the course of his career. He also served as the shop steward for the IAM union.
Jim was a member of the Stockham Community Church, Stockham Booster Club, Fox Hollow Golf Course and the IAM union. Jim worked hard and played hard; he always enjoyed golf, especially getting to play more in retirement. He hunted with his family and friends every fall. He was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast. He played any and all card games and was happy to teach you, if you brought your wallet. He was always discovering new music and loved cooking for a crowd. And of course, he relished time spent with his grandkids.
The common thread amongst Jim's hobbies is that they were all made better when enjoyed with friends.
A recent bucket list item Jim enjoyed was a bear hunt in Saskatchewan, Canada with his sons. Jim and Joyce were planning a trip to Alaska in 2026 so Jim could mark off all 50 states visited and driven in.
He is survived by his wife Joyce of 44 years, daughter Danielle (Jerry) Cox, son James R Brown III/Trey (Emily) Brown, grandkids Cora Cox, Leah Cox and James Remington Brown. He is also survived by sisters Samantha (Bryan) Lundblad and Kelly Trice, and brother Jeff (Beverly Kocher) Brown, numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, father-in-law Martin Nuss, sister-in-law Darlene Brown, brother-in-law Kevin Ross and nephew Mike Shaffer.
