James Martin Farmer, age 74, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at Mission Hospital. He was devoted to his late wife, Deborah, who was the love of his life. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Blake and Dorothy Farmer.
Born in Asheville, NC Jim was a vibrant soul whose love for music defined much of his life. A multi-instrumentalist, he played in various bands around Asheville, captivating audiences with his talent and passion. Jim held a special affinity for the music of the late 1960s and early 1970s, with an encyclopedic knowledge and deep love for all genres. He shared his enthusiasm for guitar and the Beatles with his great-nephew, Aldric, passing down a cherished legacy.
Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army, demonstrating his commitment to his country. A faithful parishioner at The Basilica of St. Lawrence, Jim served in the Knights of Columbus and sang in the choir, where his resonant basso profundo provided a powerful foundation for hymns and antiphons. His warm presence and dedication touched many in his community.
Jim is survived by his sister, Maida McMahan, and her husband Don, of Arden, NC; his nephew, Vince McMahan, and his wife Claudia, and their children, Aldric and Adrienne.
A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Arden, NC on July 14 at 1:30 p.m..
