James Bryan Freeman, Jr., 94, of Taylorville, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025 at High Point Memory Care surrounded by family.
James was born on October 25, 1930, in Randolph County, Missouri, the son of James Bryan Sr. and Lela Irene (Hoffman) Freeman. He married Janice Lee Moore on August 17, 1948. She preceded him in death on December 31, 2012.
Surviving are his sons, Mark (Diane) Freeman of Taylorville, Michael Freeman of Auburn; five grandchildren, Leigh Ann (Kelly) Lareau of Kincaid, Jaime Freeman of Taylorville, Hannah Freeman of Springfield, Blake (Karlee) Freeman of Bloomington, Ashtyn (Logan) Ponsler of Rochester; and 13 great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Janice Freeman; a daughter, Jana Freeman; and a son, Dane Freeman.
James served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. He worked for Kroger at several locations for over 40 years, retiring in Taylorville. During his free time, he enjoyed reading.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers and staff at High Point Memory Care for their care and compassion.
A private graveside service will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice. Assalley Funeral Home in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
