Obituary published on Legacy.com by Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel on Jun. 3, 2025.
James William Graves, 77, of Navarre, passed away unexpectedly, Friday afternoon, May 30, 2025. Born in Columbus, Ohio, September 21, 1947, a son to the late Glenn and Glendora (Pittsenbarger) Graves, Jim graduated with a vocational certificate in farming from the former Eastland Vocational Campus of Groveport-Madison High School. He loved farming but his natural curiosity and drive led him in several different directions. As a life-long learner, Jim taught himself how to do whatever it was he needed done and was never afraid about trying something new. He'd lived in the East Sparta area since 1973, and managed Fohl Village Mobile Home Park from 1973 to 1990. He made truck deliveries for 84 Lumber for another twenty years before retiring. He also spent eight years as the dairy manager for Hometown Market. And in addition to working full-time, often at more than one job at a time, Jim was also a 20-year member of the East Sparta Volunteer Fire Department, serving as chief from 1979-1981.
Jim made many strong and lasting friendships along the way. In addition to his wife, Robin, and his immediate family, a large extended family would also benefit from Jim's knowledge, wit, and common-sense approach to problem solving and life in general. A man of quiet, personal faith, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His social memberships included the North Industry Sportsmen's Club, Massillon VFW Post 3124, Massillon FOE 190, the Meyers Lake Sportsman's Club, and Lone Eagle Bowmen Archery Club in East Sparta.
Predeceased by his mom and dad, Jim is survived by his wife, Robin; his children, Lori (Jim) Gill, James D. Graves, Jeanna M. Graves, and Cody J. Graves; granddaughter, Carissa (Eddie) DeGone; great-granddaughter, Madison, and great-grandson, Carson DeGone. Also surviving are his sisters, Judith (Jan) Jobe, of St. Louis, MO and Jayne (Jim) Price, of Murfreesboro, TN; step-sister, Adel (David) Riagel, of Worthington, Ohio and step-brother, David Smith, of Canal Winchester, Ohio.
Family and friends will gather in celebration of Jim's life, beginning with a visitation to share memories and condolences, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon from 2-3:00 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2025. A brief chapel service will follow. Memorial contributions in Jim's name are suggested in lieu of flowers, in care of the Meyers Lake Sportsman's Club, 1600 North Park Avenue, NW, Canton, Ohio 44708. Your memories and condolences are always welcome and may be added here to Jim's on-line guestbook.
