James Lee Green, 81, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at American House of Burlington Creek in Kansas City. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Vickie May Green.
Jim was born in Carrollton on December 2, 1943, the son of Merrill "M.M." and Blanche (Baugher) Green. Jim was first united in marriage to Winnie June Price of Excelsior Springs on June 9, 1962. They were married for 15 years.
Additional survivors include: three sons, Lance (Rebecca) Green, Ryan Ainsworth, and Justin Green; three daughters, Angela Green, Melanie (Eric) Allwood, and Kristin Rose and fiancé David Murphy. 14 grandchildren: Natalie Foland, Chris Foland (Karina Holtzman), Lauren (Daniel) O'Dell, Tiffanie (Corbin) Lester, Brittanie (Michael) DeAngelo, Courtanie (Nick) Woods, Claire Rose, Landon (Shannon) Green, Lydia (Alli) Embree, Lane Carty, Lyssa Green, Kristin Carty, Carter Ainsworth, Estella Green, Jack Green, Camille Green, Blake Murphy, Alexandria Murphy, Paige Murphy, and Nicola Murphy. 11 great-grandchildren; Lexi, Gage, Henry, Jacob, Eli, Zoe, Max, Morgan, Bethanie, Austynn and Leelynd.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, M.M. and Blanche, and siblings, Donald (Barbara) Green, and Merrillyn (David) Stewart.
Jim was raised in Carrollton and later moved to Excelsior Springs, where he graduated from Excelsior Springs High School. From a young age, he worked alongside his family at their business, Green Quarries, Inc., which his parents had founded. After his father's passing, Jim, along with his brother, sister, and their spouses, continued to run the business together until it sold on June 1, 2000.
He and his wife, Vickie, made their home in Richmond, where they raised their six children. During that time, Jim was an active member of the community and a member of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce. He was a proud Shriner, Master Mason, and belonged to the Royal Order of Jesters. He was very active in the Missouri Limestone Producers Association (MLPA), serving on the board and as past President.
Jim had a lifelong love of anything with a motor: boats, cars, trucks, heavy equipment, and flying airplanes. After selling the family business, he relocated to the Liberty and Kansas City area. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospital International's "Wings of Mercy," a program that provides free transportation for patients and their families who need to travel to and from Shriners Children's Hospitals. Jim participated in this program years ago. Memorials can be mailed or dropped off to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main St., P.O. Box 190, Richmond, 64085, or made directly online at https://donate.lovetotherescue.org/give/619498/#!/donation/checkout.
