James "Sonny" Anthony Hale, affectionately known as "Sonny", 82, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Friday, July 11, 2025, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.
Born Saturday, November 7, 1942, in Ridgely, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Will C. Hale and the late Mary Ellen Dial Fair.
Sonny had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. His work as a truck driver gave him the freedom he loved. He found purpose and peace behind the wheel of his truck. For him, trucking as more than a job--it was his calling. For a number of years, he spent much of his life on the road, driving across the country and taking in the beauty of America's landscapes, one mile at a time. It was a way to experience the world. He often said there was nothing better than seeing the country from the cab of his truck.
When he wasn't on the road, Sonny could often be found at home relaxing to the sounds of classic westerns - his favorite way to unwind.
Cremation services for Mr. Hale are under the guidance of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Lynn Williams Hale of Newbern, Tennessee; three sons, James D. Hale (Rachel) of Chicago, Illinois, Dennis Hale (Lydia) of Chicago, Illinois and David Hale of Chicago, Illinois; one step-son, James David Hale of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one brother, Dennis Ogden (Donna) of Milan, Tennessee, one sister, Dianne Kurtendial (Jimmy) of Ridgely, Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Sandy Ogden; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dallas Ogden.
