James F Mason, 81, of Millersburg, OH, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on July 31, 2025 at Sycamore Run Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.

Jim was born on April 11, 1944 in Canton, OH to Craig and Arletta (Bender) Mason. He graduated from Lincoln High School (Canton) in 1962. Jim received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Malone College and went on to complete graduate work in Oklahoma and at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He worked in the Entomology Department at The OARDC in Wooster, OH until his retirement. Jim married Mary (Miller) Rangel on February 24, 1978. She survives. Jim was passionate about model trains, airplanes, cars, motorcycles, building and riding bicycles and hunting. He enjoyed traveling with Mary, especially to Maine. Jim also enjoyed his pet dogs and birds. He had a strong faith and found comfort in his favorite scripture passage from Proverbs 3.5-6. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Jim taught himself to play the mandolin and organ and enjoyed his work on the soundboard at his church during worship. He enjoyed cappuccinos, Hershy bars, and butterscotch discs (which he used to carry in the front pocket of his shirts.) Most of all, he loved his family.

In addition to his wife, Mary, Jim is survived by his two daughters from a previous marriage, Becky King of Kettering, OH and Melissa (Joe) Logue of Columbus, OH, and two stepchildren Vickie (Arleigh) Schlabach of Millersburg and Phillip "John" (Jewel Yoder) Rangel II of Millersburg. He was blessed with seven grandchildren: Hannah King, Mika Logue, Mark Schlabach, Ryan Schlabach, Jennifer Rangel, Emilee Rangel, and Philip J Rangel III. Jim is also survived by six great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter and several nephews. He was the oldest of five children and is survived by his siblings Mary Ault, Don Mason and Nancy Senters .

Prior to his death, Jim lost his parents, a brother, Steven Mason, a niece and a nephew and a great granddaughter.

As per Jim's wish, there will be no formal memorial service. You are encouraged, however, to remember Jim in a way which brings you comfort. People may make a memorial contribution in Jim's memory to Lakeview Baptist Church or Sycamore Run Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
