James McGuire Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vistoso Funeral Home on Jan. 22, 2026.
James "Jim" McGuire, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully after a courageous two-year journey with cancer. He was surrounded by love.

Jim was married to his devoted wife, Myla, for 38 wonderful years. Together they built a life centered on family, laughter, and service to others. He was a proud father to three children: Jennifer, Nick (Marcia), and Matt (Dana), and a loving grandfather to his cherished granddaughter, Maeve. He is also survived by his sister, JoAnn, and brother, John.

Jim served his country honorably for 22 years as a periodontist in the US Army Dental Corp, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. His dedication to caring for others extended far beyond his military career. Because of his deep commitment to his community, he was a prolific volunteer donating his time as a Little League umpire, a Meals on Wheels driver for Interfaith Community Services, a food bank volunteer, a mentor and substitute teacher. No matter the role, Jim brought kindness, humor, and genuine care to everyone he encountered.

Known as a jokester and the life of the party, Jim had a gift for making people feel welcome. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, often leaving them laughing and feeling like an old friend. Even those who knew him briefly remembered him long after.

Jim found joy in the simple things: tending his garden and proudly growing tomatoes, playing pickleball, and spending time with family. He believed in saying yes to life, showing up for others, and finding humor even in difficult moments.

Above all else, Jim loved his family fiercely. His legacy lives on in the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the countless lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jim's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Interfaith Community Services.

Jim will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Great picture. That smile, that picture really captures his inner joy for life and his family. Hugs to all of you.
I didn't get to see him often, but when I did - he had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in his life at the moment. I can only hope that I can somehow emulate that in my life moving forward. We are all better people for having known him. Thank you Jim
