James "Jimmy" McMellon, age 88, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at his home on June 25, 2025. A lifelong resident of Mena, he was born on May 10, 1937, to James and Jewel (Garrison) McMellon. Together with his devoted wife, Peggy, Jimmy spent many years building a beautiful life and family.
Jimmy was a dedicated public servant, working as a firefighter with the Dallas Valley Fire Department. He retired in 1984 from Pacific Gas and Electric Company but continued to pursue his passion for building. A skilled homebuilder, he was responsible for the construction of Hidden Valley Estates in Mena during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Jimmy was known for his kind, gentle, and thoughtful nature. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, and later in life, he found joy in the game of golf. He loved dining out and was a regular at the Senior Center for lunch. A man of faith, Jimmy was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Ink, Arkansas.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy McMellon; his son, Danny McMellon and wife Lori of Grass Valley, California; his daughter, Lisa McMellon, also of Grass Valley, California; four grandchildren: Jeffery, Danielle, Carl, and Forrest; five great-grandchildren: Virginia, Lorelei, Casey, Spencer, and Conner; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jewel McMellon; six brothers: Dayton, Winton, J.C., Harold, Arlon, and Jerry; and two sisters: Pauline and Betty.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Nunley Cemetery. Final arrangements are under the compassionate care of River Glenn Cremation and Funeral Services. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of James "Jimmy", please visit our floral store.
