James "Jim" Newton Reed, age 75, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025. Born on August 18, 1949, in Lincoln, Arkansas, Jim was the son of the late George Newton Reed and Lorraine Ruth (Hibbert) Reed.
Jim graduated from Lincoln High School in 1969 and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah.
Jim was known for his strong work ethic, friendly nature, and love for life's simple pleasures like the morning sunshine and a cup of coffee. He had a deep appreciation for rodeos and golf. A devoted fan of the RFD-TV network, Jim enjoyed watching programs that reminded him of his rural roots and passions.
He is survived by his loving wife, Thanya Reed; his son, Jimmy Reed; his brothers, Bill Reed and wife Ann, and George Reed; his sister, Donna Thompson and husband Kevin, and twin, Jan Reed. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Eric Francis and wife Barbara, Gary Francis, and Tim Francis and wife, Elaine, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila (Francis) Reed; his parents; his brothers, John Reed and wife Mary Ann, and Harvey Reed; and his sister, Beverly Reed.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Jones Harkins Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Willard Francis officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens in Wilburton, Oklahoma.
Jim's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
