James "Jim" Virgil Serie was born on February 22, 1953 to Virgil and Geraldine (Shubert) Serie in Pipestone, MN. He was raised and attended grade school and high school in Pipestone, graduating in 1971. Following graduation, Jim joined the Minnesota National Guard where he served for approximately 20 years. He worked at Bayliner Marine and later over the road trucking for Claire Larson.

Shortly after he married, he became a guardian/stepfather to five nieces and nephews after the loss of their parents: Rollie, Mike, Jean, Joe, and Deb Peschon. They committed themselves to raising this family and moved in with these young children in Hatfield, MN. Soon they were blessed with two sons of their own, Jamey and Jeremy. He then began working at Schwan’s in Marshall, MN. After the children were grown, he moved to Sioux Falls, SD and worked for L & S Trucking in Marion, SD and MTG Transportation in Sioux Falls. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for the South Dakota Department of Transportation as a snowplow driver. On May 20, 2025, Jim was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. On June 5, 2025, he entered the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls where he passed away surrounded by his family on July 4, 2025 at the age of 72.

Jim was a quiet, kind-hearted person. In his earlier years, he loved to tinker with motorcycles and built one of his own. He was a classic car enthusiast. Jim was a natural when it came to golfing. Nothing made him happier than to be out at the Pipestone Golf Course with the Tuesday Men’s League. His favorite past time was going to as many Tractor Pulls as he could find around the area. He also looked forward to his monthly coffee dates with his sister Linda and cousin Anne at the east side Perkins in Sioux Falls.

Jim is survived by his two sons, Jamey Serie (Stephanie Folkema) of Dublin, OH and Jeremy Serie (Kyle Ingvalson) of Little Rock, AR; his sister, Linda (Dan) Delaney of Pipestone, MN; special nieces and nephews, Rollie Peschon of Garretson, SD, Mike Peschon of Spirit Lake, IA, Jean Newman of Spirit Lake, Joe Peschon of Waynesville, MO and Deb Peschon of Pipestone and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

May he rest in peace.

As per Jim's wishes, no services will be held.
