James Stone Obituary

Mr. Stone was born on March 30, 1935, in Lufkin, Texas, to Travis Houston Stone and Vonie Lee (Mitchell) Stone, and died Tuesday, February 4, 2025, in Lufkin.
Mr. Stone worked for the Lufkin Daily News as a maintenance supervisor for 33 years. He loved every minute of hunting, fishing, vacationing all over the world. He spent many years of his life raising cattle, hogs, and goats. He had a passion for building, especially woodworking and was a good mechanic. Mr. Stone had a collection of arrow heads. Above all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Gerry Sue (Cummings) Stone; daughter, Karen Ainsworth; daughter and husband, Kelley and Ken Massey, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Bryan Skelton and wife Britta, Lacey Bell and husband Leslie, Damon Malnar and wife Brittney, Tiffany Hebert and husband Adam, Jonathan Romo and wife Sylvia, James Stone III (Trey) and wife Courtney, and Jamie Sue Stone all of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Kamryn Skelton, Brylee Skelton, Ciera Jo Skelton, Jacob Malnar, Logan Hawthorne, Kaydence Malnar, Bobby Malnar, Lane Malnar, Abigail Bell, James Hughes Romo, Addyson Gray, Penny Stone, and Keomie McFarland, all of Lufkin; brother, David Stone; and sister, Glenda Terrell.
He was preceded in death by parents, Travis and Vonie Stone; son, James Herman Stone, Jr.; granddaughter, Gracie Massey; grandson, James Evan Stone; brothers, Dalton Stone and Travis Eugene Stone; father-in-law, Cecil Cummings; step-father-in-law and wife Sam Martin and Sadie (Cummings) Martin; and brother-in-law, Carson Cummings.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Shafer Funeral Home.
