James "Jim" Francis Walker, 74, an 8-year resident of Dracut, a longtime resident of Malden and formerly of Queens, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on June 27th. He was the beloved husband of Mary J. (Revelas) Walker with whom he shared 48 and a half years of marriage.
He was born in New York, NY and was the son of the late Francis J. and Gertrude (O'Leary) Walker.
Jim was raised in New York and met his wife Mary at Northeastern University in 1973. They married in 1976 and Jim started a 33-year career as a Special Education Teacher in the Boston Public School system. Jim was very devoted to teaching and was a "natural" when it came to meeting the individual needs of his students. He later earned a Master's Degree in Moderate/Severe Special Needs. He and his wife raised their two daughters, Liz and Vicki, in Malden. Jim and Mary were very involved band parents for the Malden High School Marching Band, attending competitions and concerts to support their daughters and helping to fundraise for and chaperone trips. After retiring, Jim and Mary moved to Dracut in 2016. Jim enjoyed watching his three grandchildren, cooking for his family (his specialty was chicken parm), and watching his programs – especially General Hospital. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness. He found great joy in sharing his time, talent and resources with those around him and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his loving wife, Jim leaves his daughter Elizabeth (Walker) Picardi and her husband Matthew of Dracut and their children Cameron, Daniel and Evelyn; and daughter Victoria (Walker) Uka and her husband Thierry Paulotte of Wakefield.
Jim is survived by his brother, Michael Walker and his wife Maggie of Elmont, NY, his sister Patricia Walker, and his sister Catherine (Walker) Bartholomew and her husband Arthur of Spring Hill, FL; his nieces and nephews: Kelly, Brian, Joseph, Scott, Michael, Regina, Kate, Andrew, Alexandra, Michael, Anne, Rachael, Leo and Lila; as well as several great nieces and nephews.
Jim is predeceased by his parents Francis and Gertrude (O'Leary) Walker and his sister Christine (Walker) Smith.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to Special Olympics.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd from 3-6pm at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday, July 3rd at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 115 Wheeler Rd., DRACUT. Interment will take place following the mass at 12:00pm at Forest Dale Cemetery, 150 Forest St., MALDEN for those who wish to attend. KINDLY GATHER AT THE CEMETERY AT THAT TIME.
