James Robert Walrod, 89, of Mayetta, KS, a beloved father, grandfather and brother, softly walked into heaven on July 22nd, 2025 after a long life richly filled with kindness and service. He was the second son born on December 20th, 1935 of 5 children to Albert and Mable (Lundin) Walrod. Jim attended South Cedar Country School through 8th grade. He graduated from Mayetta High school in 1953. He quickly found a job in Topeka and worked at Seymour Foods, Inc for 44 years. He married Sharon (Shaffer) Walrod on December 29, 1956, they later divorced. They had one daughter, Debra (Walrod) Morgan together. Jim was very active in community affairs and served in many ways; Mayetta city council member, a Water Commissioner, board member of the Mayetta Christian Church, an Eagles Club member and a Mayetta Mustang 4-H Leader. After retirement Jim co-owned and operated Walrod Brothers Antiques with his brother Donnie. He enjoyed chatting with customers, sharing stories, making those feel welcome and striking up a good deal. His genuine interest in people and vast knowledge of antiques made their store a special place frequented often. During Jim's free time you would likely find him spinning on a dance floor, winning at the casino or out deep in the timber taking care of his farm he loved so much. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Walrod, infant granddaughter Melissa Morgan and niece, Dena Walrod LaBrecque. Survivors include daughter, Debra Morgan of Corning, KS; granddaughter, Maggie (Brent) Hunninghake; 4 great-grandsons, Kelton, Dempsey, Riggin and Knox all of Corning, KS., sister Vida Keyser of Silver Lake, brothers, Donnie Walrod and Roy (Joetta) Walrod of Mayetta, KS and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2025 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow at the Corning Cemetery. Family will greet friends 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Steinlage Walrod-Morgan Cancer Fund c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
