James Anthony Woods Jr, age 19, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 25,
2025 in Oskaloosa. He was born on July 9, 2005, in Ottumwa, Iowa. He is the son of James A.
Woods Sr. and Ashley L. (Surber) Sidebottom. He attended Oskaloosa High School and graduated
with the Class of 2024. He worked several different jobs, but never found one suitable for
staying. Last job was with Stout Construction.
James had a love for fishing. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting, going to the caves and cliff
jumping. Anything pertaining to sports and just being outdoors. Spending time with his friends
and family. He was there whenever anyone needed him. His real joy was putting a smile on
anyone's face.
He is survived by his parents, Ashley (Steve) Sidebottom of Oskaloosa, Iowa and James (Traci)
Woods of Plainfield, Iowa; his siblings, Dylan Sidebottom, Vanessa Woods, Kathryn Beckman,
Ava Sidebottom, Sabrina Woods, Amelia Woods and Joseph Woods; his grandparents, Becky Surber,
Ted (Denise) Riley, Rosanne Fort, Deanza Dee and Joseph McCully, Steve (Janie) Sidebottom, and Don (Edna)
McCormick. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
James was preceded in death by his grandfather, James P. Surber Sr. and uncles, James P.
Surber Jr and Noah D. Sidebottom.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bates Funeral
Chapel in Oskaloosa, Iowa, with pastor Jon Nelson officiating. Burial will take place at the
Beacon Cemetery following services. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from
5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with James's family present to greet friends and
relatives. Memorials may be made to the family.
