Jan Lou Riggs Morgan, affectionately known as Ducky, passed away on July 1, 2025. Born on April 22, 1940, in Joplin, MO to Watkin and Lula Jane Yates, Jan was a beacon of spirited energy and dedicated loyalty throughout her 85 years. She was a courageous woman who lived a vibrant life, residing in various cities across the country, from Branson, MO to Menno, SD and finally settling in Grove, Oklahoma. Jan found joy in various customer service roles throughout her career, her favorite was a telephone operator, where her joyful spirit was an asset.
Jan was renowned for her passion for plants and her extensive knowledge of vitamins and herbs. She was a spirited competitor at the card table, particularly when the game was rummy. Her family and friends will fondly remember her for this, as well as her unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Jan was often found surrounded by books, researching her latest topic of interest, or deeply engrossed in a long TV series. Her dedication to learning and her love for puzzles were testaments to her vibrant mind and her love for life's challenges.
Jan was a proud mother, survived by her children Ellen Laymon, spouse Thomas and Jon Riggs, spouse Lynn and Don Riggs, spouse Layla and two grandchildren. Her siblings Jonnie Brooks Carter, spouse James and Greg Yates, spouse Karen and Buddy Yates. Her family was the center of her world, and she remained a loyal and dedicated mother throughout her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Watkin and Lula Jane Yates. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7) - a verse that embodies Jan's courageous spirit, her loyal dedication to her loved ones, and her unwavering faith.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 2:00 pm CDT at Mt Hope Cemetery, 3700 North Rangeline Road, Webb City, Missouri, 64870. Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home.

Jan was a blessing to our family. She brightened the atmosphere and conversations when she joined us for holiday meals. Mom thoroughly enjoyed the friendship they shared. Jan was so fun to visit with as she shared new ideas and true concern for others.
