Jane Meacham Curtis, age 103, of Smithfield NC, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 29, 2025, at Smithfield Manor Nursing & Rehab. She was born on Nov. 10th, 1921, in Des Moines Iowa to the late Joan and Virgil Meacham. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charles Curtis, and dear sister Shirley Bellomo. She was a graduate of East High School class of 1939.
Jane was an active member of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution for many years and served in numerous capacities at their national headquarters in Washington, DC. After her husband, Charles Curtis retired, they moved to Smithfield NC. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she served as head of the Alter Guild for a number of years.
Jane lived an exceptionally long and eventful life. She was known for her great beauty, faultless fashion sense, lovely homes, and her skill as a hostess. She was an inspiration in life and will be deeply and forever missed by those who knew and loved her.
Jane is survived by her beloved daughter, Jeannette Tracy, sister Joyce Purpora, her step-daughter Jessica Burger, step-grandchildren Jessica and Nickolas Burger, and her dear friend Laura Langdon.
Jane will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery, joining her husband Charles, at a future date to be determined.
