Jane Rood Obituary

Jane L. Rood, 87, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025. Jane was born on April 10, 1937 to parents Thomas A. Smart and Mina E. Williams in Conway, South Carolina. Jane grew up on a farm in the Bucksport area of Conway. It was during this time that she learned the art of sewing from her mother. After High School, and a brief time with AVX Corporation, Jane decided to put her talent for sewing to use and started a business making draperies and window treatments. With the growth of the Grand Strand of Myrtle Beach, this business took off. She eventually opened The Drapery Shop and Custom Draperies by Jane, where she "Draped the Grand Strand" of Horry and Georgetown counties, creating custom draperies and window treatments for homes and businesses like: Pine Lakes Country Club, The Grand Dunes, Pawleys Plantation and several local restaurants. In addition to window treatments, she was a tireless quilter, making beautiful hand made quilts for friends and family.
In her spare time, Jane loved being part of various ladies leagues, beginning with bowling and eventually settling in on golf. Through golf, she made some incredible friends and traveled South Carolina competing in inter-club matches and tournaments. She eventually, passed the love of the sport onto her family. She was a member of Timberlake Baptist Church and Pine Lakes International Country Club.
Jane is survived by her sons, Maxie L. Hardwick, Rodney D. (Laura) Spivey, James A. (Angela) Spivey; grandchildren, Courtney Hardwick, Lamar Hardwick, Shannon Hardwick, Millie Spivey, Rivers Spivey, Zeke Spivey, Ella Spivey, Reagan Spivey; great grand children, Reaves Hooks, Ayla Hooks, and Josiah Hardwick; and sister, Emmie Cooper.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Rood; daughter, Jeannie M. Hardwick; grandchild, Dorian Hooks; brothers, Clarence W. Smart, Sammie Smart; sisters, Hazel Davis, Polly Harrelson, and Julia Ann Bacon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Mrs. Jane, to the American Cancer Society, or the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 11am-12pm, at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Conway. Funeral Service will follow at 12 pm in the Chapel.. Burial will be immediately following at Pauley Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.
