Janet Grundyson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cease Family Funeral Home - Park Rapids on Jul. 17, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

It is with profound sorrow and deep love that we announce the passing of Janet Evelyn (Aasen) Grundyson who went peacefully to her heavenly home July 16, 2025 at the age of 82. She died with family by her side from complications of dementia. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 60 years, David Grundyson, and her cherished children Jodi and Tait (Sandra) Grundyson

Born to Evelyn (Hanson) Aasen and Norval Aasen on January 25, 1943, Janet was raised in Winger, MN, alongside her sister Camilla (Aasen) Pearsall, and brother Noel Aasen. She was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger, MN.

Janet's funeral will be held at Cease Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM with visitation for 1 hour prior. Care will be entrusted to Cease, and online condolences sent via the Cease website.

Janet was a devoted wife and mother, sister and aunt, and dear friend to many. Her empathy, kindness and humor drew people to her, bringing out the best in those around her, leaving them feeling at ease and cared for.

David and Janet were high school sweethearts. They graduated together from McIntosh High School in 1961. They attended different colleges and as soon as David graduated, married on June 26, 1965. They moved to Santa Monica, CA then to Littleton, CO, following David's career in aerospace software engineering. Their daughter Jodi was born in 1968. They were drawn back to the Minneapolis area in 1970, and their son Tait was born in 1971. Nurturing their young family, both became devout Christians; faith enhanced and deepened their lives together.

Janet's happiest days were in Bloomington, MN, raising Jodi and Tait, making a beautiful home. She was a gifted artist of natural talent whose oil and watercolor paintings adorned the walls. Our home was a magnet for our friends, often with music (preferably played loudly, it simply didn't make sense to play quietly) and alive with houseplants in bloom and cats to snuggle. Janet loved reading, tennis, antiquing and celebrating her family.

Janet and David explored the world together, traveling to Norway, England, Israel, Egypt and Italy. Closer to home, their cabin up north served as a meeting place for family to connect and enjoy the outdoors together. They briefly lived in Reedsport, OR to cultivate family connections and escape harsh winters for a spell. Eventually the north called them to be closer to family, and they moved to Park Rapids, MN.

Left to cherish her memory are loving husband David, her children Jodi and Tait (Sandra), her devoted sister Camilla (Aasen) Pearsall, her beloved sisters-in-law Sheri Aasen, Lavonne (Grundyson) Moon, and Joey (Gunderson) Grundyson; and many nephews and nieces.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents Norval and Evelyn Aasen, loving brother Noel Aasen and brother-in-law Karsten Grundyson.

Family and her friends were blessed to have her influence and love, and the world was lucky to have her grace. We looked to Janet for her guidance and valued her insights on countless occasions. Her spirit lives on in the many she touched and lifted up, always above herself. Her soul is now at home with her heavenly Father.
