We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Janice Mary Raffety, 67, of Norborne, Missouri on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Shirkey's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Missouri. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family and was welcomed into the arms of her Savior. Janice was born as a special gift from God on November 2, 1957 in
Carrollton, Missouri, the daughter of Robert Dale and Bonnie Marie (Johnson) Raffety.
From an early age, Janice had such a loving heart and good spirit. She grew up in Norborne Missouri and attended the Norborne Public Schools until she left before her sophomore year and moved to Chillicothe, Missouri. She lived with the Jenkin's family, a home for girls and graduated in 1977 from Chillicothe High School. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Norborne. Later, Janice worked at the OEI Sheltered Workshop in
Carrollton, Missouri and the Hope Haven Sheltered Workshop in Chillicothe, Missouri. Once again, she returned to Norborne where she lived until she had to move to the nursing home in Richmond, Missouri. She loved soap operas and you better not call her when her favorite one was on the TV. She also loved collecting stuffed animals and she would let the little ones play with certain ones, but "Now honey, we don't play with that one. It's Aunt Janice's favorite" she would say.
Janice was always concerned about her sisters and all her nieces and nephews and wanted to know where they were and what they were doing. It wasn't being nosy, it was a genuine concern for each of them. She also loved her cousins and a special little cousin, Miss Josi. Janice and Josi loved to sing "You Are My Sunshine" together and visit on the phone. She also loved to laugh and make people laugh, but one special guy who undoubtedly giggled with her the most was her buddy, J.D. Matthews.
A devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Janice had a kindness and infectious laugh that left those who knew her leaving with a smile. She is survived by her mother, Bonnie Raffety; her sisters, Sharon Raffety, Karen Buffington (Bill), Pamela Penrod (Mike); Nieces, Shana Hopkins (Ed), Tegan Pillers (Nathan), Ashley Sizemore (Adam), Taylor Mahnken (Harrison), and nephew Dale Colborn (Morgan); her adored great nieces and nephews, Alexandra, Boden, Ava, Ashton, Addison, William, Emma, Benjamin and Rowan. She is also survived by a host of cousins and friends.
Janice was preceded in death by her father, Robert Dale Raffety, brother-in-law, Carl Prewitt, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Janice had a strong faith and fought hard in her battle but as we mourn her passing, we also rejoice that she will be in her eternal home with Christ.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 1:00 p.m to 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Norborne, Missouri. Funeral services will follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Fairhaven Cemetery in Norborne, Missouri.
The family suggests that those wishing to make a memorial contribution, may make them to the First Baptist Church of Norborne or the Fairhaven Cemetery in Norborne, Missouri.
