Jasmine Derita Rowe was born on October 24, 1986, in Austin, Texas, to Derek W. Peterson and Jocelyn Rowe.
She was raised in the Montopolis and South Austin neighborhoods, attending J. Houston and I.W. Popham Elementary Schools, Bedichek Middle School, and later graduating from David Crockett High School. After high school, she continued her education at Austin Community College's Riverside Campus and also employed there nine years. She later pursued nursing at the Southern Careers Institute, where she earned her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
After becoming a CNA, Jasmine worked as a floater within the Seton network of hospitals. She also found fulfillment working as a nanny for several families in Austin and Houston. Affectionately known as "Jazz," she was the heart of her family, always stepping up as the caregiver. She had a deep love for children and was especially devoted to her pets, Coco and Ava.
Jazz lived her life with joy and resilience, never allowing her health challenges to define her. She loved spending time with her cousins and enjoyed making lasting memories with them. Her faith journey began at the Kids Across America Religious Sports Camp, in Golden, Missouri where she gave her life to Christ. She was later baptized and became a member of St. Annie A.M.E. Church. Although not a regular attendee, Jazz served many with a compassionate spirit, often described as an "Angel of Mercy."
Despite lifelong health struggles, Jazz never used her illness as an excuse and rarely complained. Her strength, love, and generosity touched everyone around her.
On Sunday, June 29, 2025, Jasmine peacefully transitioned and received her heavenly wings.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving mother, Jocelyn Rowe of Austin, TX; her father, Derek W. Peterson (Debra) of Lockhart, TX; her grandmother, Gwendolyn Peterson of Austin, TX; her brother, Derek Peterson Jr. of Lockhart, TX; and her uncles Stephen Peterson and Daryl Peterson, both of Austin. JoAnn Lewis, Wayne Rowe (Patti), Curtis Rowe of Austin, and Clifton Griffin of Kyle, TX, along with 39 nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
