On June 29, 2025, Jean Yvonne Kivisto, 90, of Manistique, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home, with family by her side. She was born on September 27, 1934, to Einar Hagen and Rose (Toutant) Hagen of Hurley, Wisconsin. Jean attended Hurley High School and was part of the graduating class of 1952. Two years after graduation, Jean walked down the aisle of her next big life event when she married her love, Lawrence Edward Kivisto, a member of the Air Force, at the Mather Air Force Base in California on August 28, 1954.
In addition to being a busy wife and mother of three daughters, Jean worked in the Civil Service as a Stenographer and an Administrative Assistant. She also demonstrated her entrepreneurial side when she and her husband became Pasty Shop owners!
In 1995, with her daughters now grown and raising families of their own, Jean and her husband packed up their belongings and moved to Manistique to be close to their eldest daughter Lynn, her husband John, and their children. Jean and Lawrence loved the upper peninsula and settled in quite nicely. She loved playing cards, especially bridge and socializing with her friends. Jean found much joy tending to her flowers and was fascinated watching the hummingbirds fluttering by, upwards, downwards, sideways, and even upside down! Jean loved to travel, a good thing, as a dedicated military wife. Traveling across the U.S. and the world was a tremendous adventure creating fond memories for this military family. Places traveled to and stationed at included France, Germany, Thailand, Okinawa, Hawaii, California, and Nebraska, to name a few. The one thing we, her family, can attest to is that our Jean was a loving and caring person who was cherished and respected by all those who knew her.
Jean is survived by her husband Lawrence of 70 years; daughters, Lynn (John) Lindroth of Manistique; Sandra Patrick of Pennsylvania, and Terri (John) Kimball of Ironwood, MI; sister, Patricia Juhl of Brookfield, WI; grandchildren, Jennifer Stempki, Greg (Jodi) Lindroth, Keith (Lucia) Patrick, Joseph Patrick, and Johnny (Theresa) Kimball; great grandchildren, Caleb Stempki, Zoey Lindroth, Bryce Lindroth, Wyatt Kimball, Millie Patrick, Hunter Patrick, Danielle Patrick, and Rose Patrick. Additionally, special mention of honorary God daughter, and granddaughter Mardy Juhl, great-nephew, Lincoln Juhl Goldsmith and best friend, Tina Casey.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Einar and Rose Hagen, siblings, Harvey Hagen, Rosemarie Negrini, and Odney Anderson. Further, preceding Jean were members of her loving extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles whom she adored.
Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Jean's memory are kindly asked to consider any Veteran's Association.
No services have been planned at this time.

We ( my sister Lorri, Chuck and I) looked forward to what has become our annual Summer visit to see Aunt Jean and Uncle Laurie. Jean was such a sweet, kind and welcoming person. We enjoyed watching her hummingbirds near the front porch or the wildlife in the yard by the river or listening to their life stories. Such a peaceful place to live. She will be missed and I hope she is pain free and at peace.
