Jean Low Obituary

Barbara Jean Low, 81, of Dallas, TX passed away July 13, 2025.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, July 21, 2025 at Broadway Funeral Directors Chapel, 1901 Broadway St., Lubbock, TX. Interment will follow in Crosbyton Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors in Amarillo.

Barbara Jean (Stephens) Low was born on August 31, 1943, to Ralph Lee (R.L.) and Bonnie Pauline (Matthews) Stephens in Ralls, Texas. The home of her childhood was 10 miles down the road in Crosbyton, Texas. She was born with the “gift of gab,” and though she was a good student, she much preferred chatting with her classmates. She loved playing with dolls, baton twirling, was superb at “Jacks,” and could often be heard singing “Tea for Two” or “A Bicycle Built for Two” – although she called it “Daisy, Daisy.” She was a wonderful piano player, and as a teenager, would often sleepwalk and play the piano in the middle of the night. Her athletic claim to fame was that she could beat her brothers in a barefoot street race.

Jean graduated from Crosbyton High School where she played the saxophone in the marching band and sang in the Melody Misses. She attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas where she met the love of her life, Joel Low. They eloped and were married on December 15, 1962, in Clovis, New Mexico. They spent 62 wonderful years together making music, memories, and moments. In 1967, they gave birth to their only child, Angie. Jean was a mom extraordinaire!

In their early years as a family, they moved to Omaha, Nebraska where Jean was the President of the Omaha Newcomers Club. You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can never take Texas outta the girl. Missing her family, Jean was adamant they return, and their roots were planted in Amarillo, Texas.

Jean was the executive secretary for Glen Parkey for 24 years at Financial Services Company; Development Services Company (DSC); Parkey, Jones, and Kritser Development Company (PJK); Parkey Associates; Sterling Properties; and Sterling Security Services in Amarillo, Texas. Prior to her work in financial planning and real estate development, she worked at Western National Life Insurance and KIXZ radio station. Jean attended Crosbyton Baptist Church, Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo, and Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock. Oh, how she loved the Lord! Her faith and her personal relationship with Jesus Christ were the foundation of her life.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Lee (R.L.) and Pauline (Matthews) Stephens of Crosbyton, and her brother, David Wayne Stephens, of San Clemente, California. She is survived by her brother, Danny Ray Stephens, and wife Melanie of Kyle; sister-in-law, Eileen Stephens of San Clemente; daughter, Angie (Low) Molina and husband, Michael of Dallas; grandson, Ralph Molina and wife, Lindsey of Austin; and granddaughter, Rebecca Molina of Dallas.
