Jean E. Walker, of Kittery, passed away peacefully at York Hospital on February 6, 2025, at 91 years old.
She was born in Portsmouth, NH on January 3, 1934 to Earl Barnaby and Sarah Waldron. She was raised in Kittery and attended Kittery schools, including Frisbee Elementary where she later worked. She married the love of her life, Robert Walker, in 1953. Together they shared 67 years and built an amazing life and family. They shared a rare kind of love, complete with playful banter that usually ended with her saying her signature phrase "Jeez, Bob".
Jean dedicated her life to being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family. She loved making her signature "grammie jammies" for her grandchildren and knit afghan blankets for everyone. She made her famous apple pie and fish chowder. She never missed a birthday or special occasion. Her only request was that any store bought cake had the "best ever" frosting.
In her later years, Jean was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Even as her memory faded, she would still light up when she saw any of her people. She resided at Sentry Hill in York for several years and most recently at Durgin Pines in Kittery. She was known for cracking jokes and making everyone smile. Her family is incredibly grateful for every staff member that took part in her care.
She is pre-deceased by her father Earl Barnaby, her mother Sarah Waldron, her step father Frank Waldron, her brother Howard Waldron, her son Robert Walker Jr, her husband Robert Walker, her sister Muriel Foley, her brothers-in-law Stephen Foley, Edward Walker, and James Noseworthy, and her sisters-in-law Dorothy Noseworthy, Delores Walker, and Juanita Walker.
Jean is survived by her daughters Pamela and her husband Richard, Katherine and her husband Robert, and Susan; grandchildren, Scott and his wife Renee, Sara and her husband Thomas, Robert and his wife Lisa, Christie and her husband Richard, Ryan, Tyler and his fiancé Alexandra, Michael and his fiancé Hannah, Daniel, and Ashley and her partner Kent. She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at J.S Pelkey & Son Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Rd, Kittery, ME, at 2pm on Friday, February 28th followed by visiting hours from 3-5pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Maine or the American Cancer Society in honor of her loving late husband.
