Jeannette (Jeanne) Marie Smith, a beacon of loving kindness and creative spirit, passed away on June 23, 2025, in Rowlett, Texas. Born on April 17, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late William Amos and Rosie (Patak) Smith, Jeanne's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with family and joy.
Jeanne's early years were filled with adventure, shaped by her father's naval career, which carried the family to many places, including the idyllic shores of Hawaii. There, she developed a lifelong love for the beach and rhythmic sway of hula dancing. This passion flourished through Jeanne Marie's School of Dance, where she inspired many students to embrace the art of movement. Her own talent shone brightly, nearly earning her a spot with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, having reached the final round of tryouts.
Jeanne's vibrant personality sparkled in her love for music, gardening, creating festive seasonal décor, and baking birthday and wedding cakes that delighted family and friends. Each autumn, she cherished hosting whimsical pumpkin-carving traditions, filling her home with laughter and melody.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband, Bill, tending their vibrant garden and creating inviting spaces for loved ones to enjoy. They both found immense happiness in the laughter and warmth of their children and grandchildren.
Her deep faith in God guided her nurturing spirit, inspiring her to share her love with her family. Jeanne passed on her zest for life to her children: Dava Garduno (Mike), David Sweezey (Jamie), Conni Lamb (Scot), Sheryl Winberry, Daniel Smith, and Katherine Davis (Brad). She was a cherished grandmother to Ashli Bartlett (Chris), Brittini Pennington (Jeff), David Kinney (Lauren), Scot Jr. Lamb, Blake Malone, Angie Pruyn (Wesley), Will Lamb, Isabella Agostino, Evan Sweezey, Jacob Sweezey, Dylan Etheridge-Lambert, Faith Resendez, Charles Spotswood, Kaitlyn Smith, Kylie Smith, and Jacob Smith. Also bringing immense joy to her later years were her great-grandchildren, Makenzie Bartlett, Maddie Bartlett, Zach Bartlett, Aubree Bartlett, Emma Bartlett, Nixon Kinney, Connor Pennington, Noah Pruyn, Bren Spotswood, and Parker James Kinney on the way.
Jeanne is also survived by her devoted sister Carolyn Helm, sisters-in-law Ronda Smith and Carole Neubrand (Bob), and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, Bill and Rose, and her brother, Mike Smith, whose memories she treasured.
Those who knew Jeanne will remember her warm smile and generous heart. Her legacy of love, creativity, family, and unwavering faith in God will continue to shine in the hearts of all who loved her.
There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service.
