Jeremy Bundgaard, a dedicated father, physicist, researcher, loyal friend, and veteran, passed away in Colorado at the age of 43.
Jeremy's life was marked by unstoppable energy and a fun-loving spirit that lit up every room he entered. His spontaneity and curiosity made him a captivating conversationalist, always ready with a thoughtful question or a humorous observation that made those around him feel seen and valued. Jeremy approached life with an uninhibited zest, living each day fully and honestly, never shying away from a challenge or an opportunity to learn something new. Jeremy's career reflected a deep commitment to advancing science and technology for the betterment of society.
Beginning in 2010, he pursued cutting-edge research in nuclear physics at national laboratories, where he developed and deployed complex detectors and advanced data analysis models. His inquisitive nature and drive for discovery led him to contribute significantly to projects in neutron imaging and beta-delayed neutron spectroscopy, leaving a lasting impact in the field. Most recently, Jeremy served as a Senior Lead Scientist at Booz Allen Hamilton, leading research focused on multimodal model fusion, solar phenomena, and space weather to support space domain awareness, which resulted in a groundbreaking analytical examination of the data. Before that, he was a Lead Data Scientist at Lockheed Martin, where he developed models to support sensemaking in MLOps pipelines, reflecting his ability to blend theoretical knowledge with practical engineering solutions.
Jeremy proudly served his country as a United States Marine, with five years of active duty, demonstrating the same steadfast dedication that he later brought to his scientific work.
Jeremy earned his PhD and BS in Physics from the Colorado School of Mines, where he cultivated his passion for experimental nuclear physics and high-performance computing. Jeremy was truly a dedicated father and a loyal friend. He embodied the ethos of the U.S. Marine Corps in everything he did in life. He co-founded a Veterans Club at the Colorado School of Mines. His love of science and mathematics was infectious and inspiring. He was someone driven by curiosity and sheer willpower to achieve the impossible, while never compromising his integrity. His friends will miss the deep philosophical conversations, the spontaneous road trips, and the laughter he brought wherever he went.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jeremy will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, unwavering honesty, and the mentorship he offered to colleagues and friends in the scientific community.
In his youth, he loved soccer, playing with determination and joy in the Holland Cup, where his contribution helped lead his team to a championship victory.
Jeremy is survived by his three loving children, Maxwell, Tesla, and Ellisandra; his parents, James and Sondra Bundgaard; and his sister's family, Kihra, Chris, and Conner Johns. He is also survived by numerous friends, colleagues, and extended family who will miss his dedication to discovery, his enduring kindness, and the love he shared with those around him. Jeremy, there was only one of you in this world. Semper Fidelis, we love you.

I'm so sad you're gone...I loved hanging out with you and talking about dogs (Papillons in particular), Mines, Pink Floyd...anything and everything that came into your amazing mind. My favorite memory is that you came to the National Western Stockshow to watch my Papillon Rocky and me do an agility demonstration. The video of you has you yelling in the background, "Go Rocky!" During the COL for Alex F. you completely broke down telling your stories about him. I saw a different side of you that day. I wish we'd hung out more. Even though I didn't see you a ton, I'm going to be a little bit lonelier because the world doesn't have you in it. RIP.

Jeremy´s passion for science and excellence was infectious. His love of learning and mentorship of junior researchers on our team has left a lasting impression on me. I send my deepest condolences to his children. Please know your father was kind, bright, and always strove for honor and integrity. The energy and knowledge he passed on to others will continue to live on and have ripple effects far beyond what you can see, but please know your father left a positive mark on this earth.
