Jerry Pete Burkes, 89, a retired geologist for the US Corp of Engineers, died Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Carthage Senior Care.
Visitation is 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Wilcox Funeral Home. Services are 10:00 am Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Rocky Point Baptist Church with Bro. Brett Martin officiating. Interment is in Rocky Point Cemetery. Wilcox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burkes was a native of Leake County and a member of Rocky Point Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Newton and Grace Dorman Burkes and a sister, Barbara Ann Dorsey.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Burkes of Carthage; 2 sons, John W. Burkes (Deborah) and Stacey Lynn Burkes (Mary), both of Carthage; 2 daughters, Cindy Barnett (Mike) of Fayetteville, AR and Becky Mann of Carthage; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Josh Mann, Turner Burkes, Darian Chervenak, Aaron Mann, Billy Pickle, and Glyn Dorsey.
