Funeral services for Jerry Delando Hart will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, May 31, 2025, in the Chapel at Griffin Funeral Home on Warren Drive with Bro. Benson officiating. Interment will follow at Lapine Assembly of God. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home West Monroe.
Jerry was born January 30, 1942, in Herbert, LA and passed away May 27, 2025, in West Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Algie and Mattie Jane Hart; siblings Ed Hart, Bill Hart, Claude Hart, Jimmy Hart, Lois Hart Antley, Edna Hart Hair, and Pearlie Hart Berry.
Jerry was member of Lapine Assembly of God in West Monroe. He was avid hunter and fisherman all his life. He loved football, especially LSU. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960-1964. He also served as a deputy for the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office. Jerry moved to California to work for PG&E. He worked there from 1973-1993, when he retired at the age of 50. After his retirement, Jerry and his family moved back to
West Monroe, Louisiana to be close to family.
Jerry was a man of many talents. He loved his family and being around people. He never met a stranger, and he always had a joke waiting for you. During his years as Truancy Officer, you could often find him giving back the community and children he served. He would give his time and resources to families in need, this was often in the form of clothing, haircuts, food, etc. Jerry was a staple at the local Waffle House. There he made friends and shared many cups of coffee and life experiences.
Jerry is survived by his wife Jean Hart; daughter Rhonda Lakosky; son Brian Hart; 4 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; Billy Wayne Hart, Mary Elaine Hart Martin, Dean Hart, Ricky Hart, Scott Hart, Carol Downs, Susan Antley, Bobby Antley, Lynn Antley, Barbara Jones, Sybil Binford, Darlene Jackson, Terry Berry, Roger Berry, Tomeca H. Fenner, Donna H. Pilcher, Karen Hart.
The Pallbearers will be Lynn Antley, Roger Berry, Jody Higgins, Chris Salsbury, Brian Dunn, and Jason Dunn. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clint Morton, Richard Carter, Mike Groan, Geno, and Richard Perot.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to granddaughter Lacey Hart for her unwavering care and love for her grandpa during his extended illness. She cared for him and gave her undivided attention and time to his every need. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jerry's nephew Lynn Antley. He cared for Unc during his last days. Lynn would take Unc to his many doctors' appointments. He loved Unc and never wavered from his devotion. They spent many days together enjoying each other's company and the great outdoors.
Jerry's last words were "Don't be sad for me, rejoice for that is what I am doing, going home."
