Graveside services for Jerry Sandford Stephens, age 81, of Dickert will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Stephens' Family Farm with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the Harmon Boys' Barn after the graveside service is complete.
Mr. Stephens passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 3, 2025
Survivors include: his wife of 59 years, Sybil Taylor Stephens; daughter, Marla Stephens Webb (Todd) of Wadley; and brother, Johnny Stephens of Wadley.
Mr. Stephens was born in Dickert on August 20, 1943, the son of Dewey Washington and Margaret Britt Stephens. He was Christian by faith and was a member of Radneys Chapel Methodist Church. He had a commonsense approach to life to go along with a determined work ethic. His work began on the farm with his brothers, then he started a Grit paper route on his bicycle at 12 years old spanning from their home in Dickert to White Plains while also helping his uncle who built houses where he used a shovel and wheelbarrow. He had many jobs including working at the mill in Rock Mills at night and school during the day. After graduation he worked in Missouri and Atlanta, and then on to construction in Roanoke, LaGrange, Hogansville, and Atlanta. He eventually built a convenience store in Wadley. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, farming and flying after he acquired his pilot's license. In his later years he spent most of his time taking care of his farm, watching the corn grow and checking on the cows with his dog, Lou, on the side by side. With love and duty, he spent his entire life caring for his family's farm. Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, William D. Stephens, Robert Michael Stephens, and Rodney Stephens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of one's choice.
